Will the Redesigned 2016 Lexus RX Claim the Top Spot in Our Luxury Midsize SUV Rankings?

Lexus displayed its all-new 2016 RX at the New York International Auto Show Wednesday, highlighting the luxury SUV's new interior and exterior styling, as well as new tech features. According to Lexus, the RX is their most popular model, and they've tried to build on that success in this redesign. Not only is the RX popular among consumers, but it's favorable among automotive critics as well. The 2015 Lexus RX performs well in our rankings, as it's currently first out of 17 in our midsize SUV rankings. It's also the winner of our 2015 Best Luxury 2-Row SUV for the Money award, as well as our 2015 Best Luxury 2-Row Midsize SUV for Families award.

The 2016 model has a redesigned exterior that CNET says "features an angular design with crisply defined shoulders, squared-off wheel arches and—perhaps most obviously—the automaker's trademark spindle front end." The 2016 RX also has a longer wheelbase and greater overall length compared to the previous model.

The 2016 Lexus RX 350 comes standard with a 3.5-liter V6 engine that makes 300 horsepower (30 more than last year's model) and it is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Lexus says the 2016 RX has a stiffer suspension compared to last year's model for improved handling. The hybrid model, the 2016 Lexus RX 450h, also has a 3.5-liter V6 engine along with an electric motor that combined make 300 horsepower (up from 295 horsepower in last year's model)

New for 2016 is the Lexus Safety System+, which incorporates pre-collision warning, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control and other features to maximize safety and to avoid or lessen collisions under varying driving conditions.

No pricing information has been announced, but the 2016 Lexus RX will be available towards the end of this year.
