magfloat and flexup by hankook tires are a realistic alternative to future driving

the hankook design innovation project has proposed a series of innovative tire proposals including the ‘mayfloat’ and ‘flexup’. the initiative is the result of a discussion between creative and realistic alternatives to future driving. combining design and technology in relation to the urban landscape, these mind blowing ideas introduce a whole new driving experience.

the 2016 hankook theme ‘connect to the connected world’ predicts mobility changes in future mega cities and presents a vision of future mobility through tires.

the ‘flexup’ design consists of one single wheel which expands and contracts through a principle of divided treads which makes it possible to move freely even when the stairs are encountered. it can also freely turn any corner on flat ground by using a titling technique similar to when skiing.

the ‘magfloat’ in appearance resembles a skateboard but instead uses a magnetic field extension and rotation principle rather than wheels. this feature allows the user to move freely at a low speed of 20km / h or less.

Need More Grip? Check Out the Latest Extreme Performance Summer Challengers to the Bridgestone Potenze RE-71R

Becoming number one is difficult, but staying on top is even harder. Currently, the Bridgestone Potenza RE-71R has managed to hang on to its Extreme Performance Summer crown, however the competition is getting fierce. BFGoodrich has the new g-Force Rival S 1.5. Falken has come out with the RT615K+. And Hankook has rolled out the Ventus R-S4.

BFGoodrich g-Force Rival S 1.5
The g-Force Rival S 1.5 is an update to the g-Force Rival S. The g-Force Rival S has always boasted great lateral grip, but many drivers found its steering response to be a bit vague compared to the Bridgestone Potenza RE-71R. BFGoodrich updated the Rival S's construction to improve feel and responsiveness. The update focused on all the three-rib (255 section width and narrower) versions of the tire.
While there is not a “1.5” designation on the tire's sidewall, it's still easy to spot a Rival S 1.5 compared to the standard Rival S. Just check the speed rating branded on the sidewall at the end of the Service Description. All Rival S tires feature a W-speed rating, while Rival S 1.5 tires are V-speed rated. Additionally, Rival S 1.5 tires can be identified by the Sizing System. All Rival S tires are P-metric, and Rival S 1.5 tires are all Euro-metric. Finally, all Rival S tires are Light Load tires (with the exception of P205/50R15), whereas Rival S 1.5 tires are all Standard Load.

FALKEN AZENIS RT615K+
Falken's internal testing shows a measurable improvement in dry grip for the RT615K+ compared to the Azenis RT615K. The RT615K+ impressed during our brief introductory test. We're looking forward to quantifying that improvement and assessing its overall performance during our summer testing.
HANKOOK R-S4
Likewise, Hankook's tire engineers have seen a big improvement in dry lap times with the R-S4 compared to the R-S3. They have also noticed measurable gains in wet grip. It's another tire that we can't wait to test.

MICHELIN UNVEILS X MULTI D

New regional drive-position truck tire boasts mileage, scrub resistance and traction benefits.
Michelin Americas Truck Tires, a division of Michelin North America, has introduced the Michelin X Multi D, a regional drive-position tire for use in less-than-truckload, pick-up and delivery, food and beverage and other demanding vocational segments.
The company says the X Multi D is a versatile tire designed with an advanced regenerating tread that provides water evacuation and traction throughout the life of the tire while full-depth Matrix siping allows for a biting grip as the tread wears.
The tire features co-extruded scrub-resistant rubber for first class mileage and cooler running rubber to help minimize heat build-up for increased casing life.

This next-generation regional drive has been designed to excel in high torque applications and delivers all the key performance benefits needed in a regional tire  traction, said Adam Murphy, Vice President of Marketing for Michelin Americas Truck Tires.
The X Multi D performance is backed by a confidence guarantee. If the tire does not meet expectations for mileage, traction and driver satisfaction, then Michelin will reimburse any cost difference for a competitive drive tire.

The tire is available in the United States, Canada and Mexico, in 11R22.5 size in load ranges G and H, and 11R24.5 size in load range H, with additional sizes to follow in the coming months.
